Chatham Threadworks

Happy December! I really can’t believe we are in the final month of 2015-time sure flies. While I was in Massachusetts last week with family for Thanksgiving, I look a little drive to visit one of my favorite shops on Cape Cod, Chatham Threadworks. Today, I am really excited to share a bit about this beautiful new shop and the owner, Beth Ryan. I was initially drawn to the charming building the shop is in and their windows were so beautifully decorated that I had to pop inside! I love the collection of pieces they sell, but the best part about the store is that everything they sell is monogram-able! You can choose from all kinds of fonts and colors and your item is personalized, one of a kind, and ready to take home just hours later. I interviewed Beth about opening a new business and some great holiday gift ideas. Keep scrolling to peek at some of the beautiful pieces and to be inspired by her career courage!

CharleboisChic: Tell me about Chatham Threadworks!

Beth: Chatham Threadworks is a modern monogram boutique. We carry contemporary items and gifts and then add a monogram to make the gift even more special.

CC: What inspired you to open your own store?

B: My husband & I were trying to figure out the next phase of our life. Our kids were grown and he had sold his business in CT. We were too young to retire and wanted to get involved with the Chatham community. We had seen a monogram store on a trip years ago and the idea stuck with my husband. We did some research and came up with a plan to do it our own way and style.

CC: Do you think about a certain shopper when you are buying for the store?

B: I try to find items that appeal to a broad range of ages and styles. I’m also looking for things that can be enhanced with a monogram and are a little different. And we constantly change our product mix.

CC: What is your favorite part of your job?

B: It may sound corny but I truly like all of it! I like the decorating and styling, I love the hunt for the products, and I love working with my husband (we really have a good time- who knew?). If I had to choose one part though,  I would say I love meeting all the people and developing  relationships.

CC: What is the most challenging part of your job?

B: Getting used to retail hours has been a challenge and also just the fact that we own our own small business. We wear a lot of hats. I make tags and bags , decorate the window, empty the trash, the list goes on.

I have (and LOVE) the weekender bag on the bottom-peek at it here!

CC: What are some of your favorite pieces in the store right now?

B: Some of my favorite pieces in the store right now are the kanthas, Rough and Tumble line of waxed canvas bags and our cotton knit scarves.

CC: What are some great holiday gift ideas you have in Chatham Threadworks? Maybe a gift for a friend hosting a holiday party and a gift for one of your best girlfriends?

B: I have great host/hostess gifts. An insulated wine tote with the recipients monogram, zippered pouches with names or items embroidered on it. As for gifts-  this is where the monograming gets fun. How about a throw with the word “Chill” on it or a tote with “Stuff” on it. The combinations are endless. We learn as much from our customers as they do from us!

I love this sweet store so much; I have always loved monograms and think getting personalized gifts for the special people in your life are so thoughtful. Make sure you follow Chatham Threadworks on Instagram and Facebook to get some beautiful inspiration for gifts and maybe a Christmas gift for yourself too! Give them a call to order and they will ship it to you wherever you are-monogramed to your liking!
