Chicago Brunching

The more I travel, the more I have learned what has now become my cardinal rule – live like a local! I try and find the more neighborhood-y spots that are favorites to the people who know all the local haunts. You better believe their suggestions are tried and true, never fail winners. During my stay in Chicago, I was fortunate to live in a beautiful apartment in Old Town, a section of town just north of downtown where our theatre was, in a neighborhood full of boutiques, coffee shops and local restaurants.  It reminds me a lot of the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where I usually call home, so it felt like the perfect place for Ari and I to hang our hats for our seven weeks performing at the Oriental Theatre.

I was thrilled to reconnect with my former college roommate, and Chicago blogger Lauren of Lake Shore Lady while I was in town, and she set me up with some of her favorites in the neighborhood. With only a few days left to explore, she told me there was one spot I had to get to for brunch, and man, she did not let me down!

3 Arts Club Cafe at Restoration Hardware felt like a secret gem. The beautiful fountains, olive trees and light music made the ambience perfect for lots of girl talk, laughing and plotting our upcoming trip to Disney World! There were cozy couches, leather lounge chairs, a gorgeous glass ceiling and lots of candles to keep it extra glowy. And the food? Keep scrolling…

We both had the exact same thing, and while part of me would suggest getting a couple of entrees to split, I simply can’t do that. If you like scrambled eggs, these are the best ones I have ever had. Light, creamy, topped with chives and served with fantastic Texas toast and avocado. And if you’re a lady like we are…you split a side of bacon. I also had an almond milk cappuccino that was a perfect treat to start and finish the meal.

I wore this B.B. Dakota black dress that is over eight years old and still a closet favorite! The detailing on the sleeves make it feel special, but it can be dressed up or down and is soft, flexible cotton. A pretty perfect LBD if you ask me! I found a couple that are similar and won’t break the bank. I love this long-sleeved look from Norma Kamali, the fun shoulder detail on this J.O.A option, and this velvet beauty on sale! Every girl needs a few great black dresses in their rotation.

I wish I had found this spot sooner. Such a peaceful and gorgeous place to bring a book or my computer to do some work-and sip something warm!

It was the perfect way to celebrate our time in Chicago!

I am now packing up my suitcases for another whirlwind trip to NYC this weekend to visit my friends and say hi to my city before we head to Pittsburgh next week! Any must-visit spots while we are playing the Benedum Center?
